Both instructors and peers show care by supporting each other, especially when things get tough. Instructors guide us, give advice and check on us while peers help in studies, training, and personal struggles. There’s a sense of family here even with the regimental setting, The environment here teaches us to move as a team. Whether in drills, classes, or daily routines, we learn that no one succeeds alone. We’re encouraged to help, remind, and support each other. This builds a mindset that caring for your coursemates is part of the journey, not just an obligation.

ALAM combines academic learning with hands-on training, like practical drills, simulations, and regimental routines. The academics and practicals build our technical skills, while the daily discipline, teamwork and responsibilities shape our character. The leadership programme gives us exposure to roles, group tasks and decision-making situations. It teaches us to lead by example, stay calm, and act fairly even under pressure. We learn that leadership is not about power, but guiding others with integrity, respect, and empathy.

As an engine cadet, I can really feel the ‘Care’ aspect especially during workshop sessions and hectic regimental days. The instructors always guide us patiently, even when we make mistakes while handling tools or machinery. My coursemates also look out for one another. We share knowledge, help fix errors and motivate each other to push through tough days. That kind of support makes the challenges easier to handle. The structured training at ALAM, especially the hands-on workshops and semi-regimental lifestyle, has taught me a lot. Working with real engine components improved my technical skills, while the discipline and routine built my confidence, time management, and teamwork. It shaped me to be more responsible, not just as a cadet, but as a future marine engineer who can stay calm and focused under pressure.
